PROVO — In spite of the unwelcome snow that flurried around us Friday, summer is just around the corner and so is the annual Rooftop Concert Series held in Provo.
Officials announced the first concert in the series Friday. Local bands The Str!ke and The Aces will headline the show May 6, and Mimi Knowles will open, according to the Facebook event page.
“This year we're planning on maintaining our Rooftop roots — concentrating on new up-and-coming bands from our local scene and giving spotlight to some of our favorite Provo bands,” event co-founder and sponsor Courtney Kendrick said in a statement. “We do have some surprises in store — it's going to be a delightful season for sure."

An extra show has been added to this year’s free concert series. The first show will begin at 7:30 p.m. in front of the NuSkin Plaza at 100 West Center Street in Provo.
“The Str!ke has gained national recognition playing with acts like Journey and Kelly Clarkson, as well as appearing on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ among other shows,” according to the Facebook page. “The Aces, formerly The Blue Aces, is the Provo phenom who have opened for local favorite, Neon Trees, and will also be releasing their newest EP this summer.”
The concert series started in 2010 and has drawn thousands of people per concert, according to a press release.
The Rooftop Concert Series takes place the first Friday of every month starting in May and ending in September. Follow the Facebook page or website to see concert updates.
