TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A south-central Idaho man has been sentenced to five years in prison for stalking a woman by breaking into her home and stealing photos and her underwear.

The Times-News reports (http://bit.ly/1SfqtaD) that 25-year-old Edgar Ivan Flores Aguilar of Twin Falls received the sentence Monday in 5th District Court and must serve at least half the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Aguilar pleaded guilty in February to a felony count of first-degree stalking and admitted to breaking into the woman's home multiple times to steal family photos and the woman's underwear.

Judge Richard Bevan said Aguilar has a substantial history of being a victim of childhood sexual abuse, and that the sentence will get Aguilar the help he needs. But Bevan also noted that a presentence investigation identified Aguilar as a high risk to reoffend.

"Your history and background is one of the most substantial I think I've ever contemplated in terms of what you went through as a child," Bevan told Aguilar. "But I'm not sure those grounds . excuse or justify what you did."

Aguilar apologized to the victim at the sentencing hearing.

"I just want to get better . just go to treatment, better myself and just deal with the issues that I've been going through my whole life," Aguilar said. "I'm sorry for my actions and everything I did."

Police say they began investigating after a picture of the victim's daughters was found in a neighbor's garage in September. Police found evidence of a break in at the victim's home at the same time underwear was reported missing.

In October, police say the woman captured video surveillance footage of a man unscrewing lights outside her home and trying to break in.

Court records show that Aguilar turned himself in after the surveillance footage was publicly released.

Flores Aguilar told police that voices in his head told him to break into the woman's home.
