SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Refugee Center is finding new ways to let people know how to help new arrivals after a surge of interest sparked by Mormon church leaders urging women to help new arrivals in their communities.
Officials at the nonprofit said Monday they now have an app available for all types of smartphones.
Called "Serve Refugees," the app will help people find ways to learn more about refuges in the area, what their needs are and how to help.
Executive director Deb Coffey has reported a flood of calls and emails from prospective volunteers after The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints leaders highlighted it at a women's conference in late March.
The Church has also launched its own website to coordinate the volunteer effort called "I was a stranger."
