PAROWAN — A man is missing in Iron County after he left his wife and kids on a mountain road to get help after the family's van became stuck.

The search for Daniel Brown, 34, began at 11 a.m. Tuesday after deputies rescued Brown's wife and children, according to a statement from Iron County Sheriff's Lt. Del Schlosser.

Brown left the vehicle and his family around 4 p.m. Monday after they became stuck because of poor road conditions near Kane Springs, northwest of Parowan and southeast of Minersville, police say.

Brown's wife called the police Tuesday morning around 10:20 a.m. when her husband still had not returned, according to the statement.

Police say they were able to find the family using a GPS location from the woman's cellphone.

Deputies hiked up the road and found the woman and her four kids — ages 7 months to 11 years old — all of whom were cold but "in good health," the sheriff's office reported.

Iron County Search and Rescue, Iron County Volunteers in Police Services, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Upper Limit Aviation and Iron County sheriff's deputies are participating in the search for Brown.

Snow, rain, wind and fog have made the search more difficult, officials said. The search was scaled back due to weather around 9 p.m. Tuesday and was expected to be completely shut down within a few hours after that, according to Schlosser.

A full-scale search was expected to resume Wednesday morning, he said.

Schlosser said Brown was last seem in a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and athletic shoes.

Anyone who may have seen Brown is asked to contact law enforcement.
