OREM & OGDEN — It was a good day for teams from Region 3 and Region 4, as they dominated the first round of UHSAA Class 5A boys basketball state tournament Tuesday at Weber State's Dee Events Center and Utah Valley's UCCU Center.

The two regions looked to be the class of 5A during the regular season. They proved it in the first round of the state tournament. Region 4 went 3-1 against Region 1, while Region 3 was 3-1 against Region 2.

Sky View is the only team left standing from Region 1 after defeating Pleasant Grove 63-49. The Bobcats came from behind and outscored the Vikings 41-23 in the second half to earn a spot in Thursday's semifinals.

Region 2 winner and defending 5A champion Layton broke open a close game in the 2nd half to defeat West Jordan, 54-38.

Bingham looks like the team to beat in 5A and they looked the part with a 70-39 win over Viewmont. Fellow top squad Lone Peak trailed Mountain Crest in the 3rd quarter, but used a 20-2 run late in the half to advance past the Mustangs.

Westlake had to win a play-in game against Lehi to make the tournament — but the Thunder proved they belong with an impressive 70-51 win over Region 1 champion Weber.

The best finish came in Brighton's win over Davis. The Darts trailed by one in the final seconds and had a shot for the win — but the attempt was short and Brighton turned the rebound into a transition dunk at the horn.
