RICHMOND, Cache County — A construction worker was transported to the hospital after a track hoe drove over his legs Tuesday, police said.

Jimmy Anderson, a 22-year-old Fountain Green resident, was working on an excavation site on Richmond's east bench when the accident occurred just before 9 a.m., according to the Cache County Sheriff's Office.

Anderson approached the track hoe from behind while the vehicle's operator moved a large length of pipe into a trench, investigators said.

"It is believed that Mr. Anderson was in a position that the operator could not observe him," a statement from the sheriff's office reads. "As the track hoe began to move in reverse, it is believed that Mr. Anderson slipped in the wet mud and fell down in the path of the machine."

The operator stopped when other workers head Anderson call for help, according to investigators. They said the track hoe ran over both of Anderson's legs.

Investigators said Anderson was conscious on scene, but sustained "significant injuries" to his legs. Wet conditions in the area prevented medical crews from reaching the scene, but Anderson was reportedly transported to emergency personnel with the help of a pickup truck. He was then taken to the Cache Valley Hospital.

The accident is still under investigation by the Cache County Sheriff's Office, but officials said they do not anticipate filing any criminal charges.

Terry R. Brotherson Excavating is managing the project to replace an irrigation canal at the site, according to the Cache County Sheriff's Office.
