ST. GEORGE — A St. George man was charged Monday with meeting a 14-year-old girl on a popular texting app and then sexually abusing her.
Don Louis Wakefield, 22, was charged in 5th District Court with unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony; two counts of distributing pornographic material, a third-degree felony; and sexual abuse of a minor, a class A misdemeanor.
Wakefield "met and communicated with the 14-year-old victim via a popular texting app. After gaining her trust, the victim agreed to meet him at a location in St. George. It was at this meeting that Mr. Wakefield allegedly sexually assaulted the victim," according to St. George police.
Police did not immediately release the name of the app.
Wakefield was arrested Sunday. St. George police said the incident is a good reminder for parents to monitor their children's cellphone activity.
