SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Several days of unrelenting heat has Utah's power company telling customers to conserve.
Rocky Mountain Power asked customers today to reduce their electrical consumption.
Demand for electricity is high throughout the West. High temperatures are causing power outages in California.
The company says short electricity supplies, transmission constraints and other pressures on the regional power grid are prompting the call to conserve.
Customers should eliminate all unnecessary power use and switch their main power usage to off-peak hours whenever possible. Off-peak hours are between 10 p-m and 5 a-m.
They also recommend thermostats on central air conditioning be set at 78 degrees or higher and turned up to 85 degrees when the home will be vacant for several hours.
