Editor's Note:The 911 call featured in this story contains some strong language. Discretion is advised.PARK CITY — Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street is facing misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged fight with her father last month.
Street, 44, is charged with one count of assault and three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, all class B misdemeanors. The case was filed one day after the Dec. 23 incident at Street's home, though an information report detailing the charges wasn't filed until Jan. 4.
Street and her father, Roland Street, 76, got into an argument as he was leaving his daughter's home and "in the process bumped his car into the house," according to a Summit County sheriff's affidavit.
"Roland stated that Picabo then began to get very angry and started yelling at him," the affidavit states.
The two went into the house where the fight turned physical, according to the report, and Picabo Street told deputies she pushed her father down the stairs and locked him in the basement before calling police dispatch.
The Summit County Sheriff's Office released Picabo Street's 911 call Wednesday. The recording depicts a heated argument that turned physical and ended shortly before the call.
"I put him downstairs. I dunno what he's doing," Picabo Street says at one point after the dispatcher asks her if the situation has calmed down.
"What do you mean you put him downstairs?" the dispatcher asked.
"I put him down the stairs. He got his hands on me and I put him down the stairs," Picabo Street replies.
Roland Street told police he fell down two flights of stairs and may have hit his head, according to the affidavit. Investigators noted cuts on his neck and elbow.
Picabo Street tells the dispatcher near the beginning of the call that "my father just tried to attack me in my own house in front of my own children." A couple of minutes later, she argues with a woman in the background who she identifies as her mother.
"You've got to be kidding me, Mom. Look what he did to my hair. Look what he did to my hair," she can be heard saying.
"I saw what you did to him. You attacked him," the other woman said.
"Are you kidding me? He scratched me on my face," Picabo Street responded.
She tells the dispatcher the argument began after she spent an hour trying to shovel the driveway so her father could drive out. When he didn't wait for her to "get everything done" and accidentally hit the side of the house, the two began arguing and he called her a freak, Picabo Street told police over the phone.
"He pulled so much hair out of my head," she told the dispatcher at another point while her father apparently remained downstairs.
Three children witnessed the incident.
Picabo Street, a part-time Park City resident, won gold at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics and silver in the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, as well as a number of downhill World Cup skiing victories through the years. Since retiring from professional skiing, she has focused primarily on raising her children.
Jason Richards, Picabo Steet's attorney, told the Associated Press that Street denies any wrongdoing in what she considers a private family matter. He said she is hopeful an "amicable resolution" can be reached.
"She's a stand-up person, as good as you can get," Richards said.
Summit County prosecutor Ivy Telles told the AP she's prepared to discuss a possible plea deal to resolve the case, but that the two sides haven't begun negotiations.
Street is expected to plead not guilty to the charges during a pretrial conference on Feb. 16, according to court records.
