LOS ANGELES (AP) — Left-hander Scott Kazmir has found a new team, agreeing to a three-year, $48 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The three-time All-Star was among the top names left on the free-agent market after revitalizing his career over the past three seasons with Cleveland, Oakland and Houston. He ranked fourth in the AL with a 3.10 ERA last year while going 7-11 for the Athletics and the Astros.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Clemson football coach Dabo (DA'-boh) Swinney has sent three players home for violating team rules, a decision that was announced the day before the Tigers' semifinal game against Oklahoma. Receiver Deon Cain, kicker Ammon Lakip and tight end Jay Jay McCullough are all backups, but Cain had 34 receptions this season for 582 yards.
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer is out of the NFL's concussion protocol and will start on Sunday against Jacksonville as the Texans try to win the AFC South title. Hoyer missed the last two games after suffering his second concussion in less than a month on Dec. 13. Brandon Weeden was the starting quarterback in Sunday's win over Tennessee.
NEW YORK (AP) — Law enforcement officials in New York say Knicks forward Cleanthony Early was shot in the right leg yesterday morning during a robbery outside a strip club in Queens. The two officials say Early was in an Uber cab at around 4:30 a.m. when the vehicle was surrounded by at least two other cars. The officials say masked men got out and demanded Early's "gold," before taking a necklace and other belongings and shooting him in the right leg.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Boston Bruins will be without forward Brad Marchand for Friday's Winter Classic against Montreal at Gillette Stadium. The NHL has given Marchand a three-game suspension without pay for flipping Ottawa defenseman Mark Borowiecki to the ice during Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Senators. The 5-foot-9 Bruin left wing swooped down and took out the 6-foot-2 Borowiecki at his knees.
