HONOLULU (AP) — The White House says Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will attend a state dinner on March 10 in a visit intended to boost ties between the neighboring countries.
Trudeau took office in November, just days before President Barack Obama quashed the Keystone XL pipeline.
At the time, Trudeau said he was disappointed with the decision. But he also pledged to pursue a "fresh start" with Obama.
Trudeau will attend the state dinner with his wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau. The White House says the event provides an opportunity to advance a bilateral relationship that is "one of the closest and most extensive in the world."
The two leaders are to focus their talks on energy, climate change, security and the economy.
The visit was announced while Obama was vacationing in Hawaii.
