AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Top-ranked Michigan State goes for a school record 13-0 start to a season when the Spartans take on Oakland in suburban Detroit tonight. MSU will be playing its first game without leading scorer Denzel Valentine, who's sidelined for up to three weeks with a knee injury.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — No. 2 Kansas has built a 9-1 record without playing on an opponent's home court this season. That changes tonight when the Jayhawks travel to take on Steve Fisher's San Diego State Aztecs. Kansas is 3-1 in neutral court games this season.
DALLAS (AP) — The Stars have an NHL Central Division showdown at home against the Blackhawks tonight. A Dallas victory will give them sole possession of first in the NHL heading into the Christmas break. Chicago's Patrick Kane heads into the game with the NHL scoring lead, four points in front of Dallas' Tyler Seguin (SAY'-gihn) and five ahead of the Stars' Jamie Benn.
MIAMI (AP) — The Heat will be trying to protect their slim lead over Atlanta in the NBA Southeast Division when they entertain Detroit tonight. Miami is holding a five percentage point lead over the idle Hawks heading into tonight's play.
ZURICH (AP) — FIFA (FEE'-fuh) has told presidential hopeful Michel Platini that he cannot bypass its appeals process by challenging his eight-year ban directly at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Platini had been hoping to cut out the required FIFA appeals procedure as he races to try to overturn his ban before the Feb. 26 presidential election.
