SALT LAKE CITY — The first big snowstorm of the year for the Wasatch Front kept UDOT plows and emergency responders busy into Tuesday morning.

UDOT crews worked around the clock to make sure highways were ready for the Tuesday morning commute. In the Salt Lake Valley, snow turned slushy on day two of this snowstorm.

According to UHP, from midnight Monday until just before midnight Tuesday, troopers responded to 217 crashes on I-15, I-215 and in the canyons of Utah, Salt Lake and Davis counties. That does not include slide offs and minor crashes.

Tuesday morning included more crashes than Monday morning but fewer widespread major delays, according to the KSL Newsradio traffic center. Motorists were cautioned to drive carefully for the conditions.

Northbound FrontRunner trains faced delays of 6 to 30 minutes due to weather, UTA tweeted.

Several schools have delayed starts or cancelled classes for Tuesday. Please check with your child's school for specific information.

The Utah Avalanche Center issued an avalanche warning Tuesday for the mountains of northern and central Utah, including the Wasatch Range near Ogden, Salt Lake City, and Provo as well as the Manti Skyline. Avalanche danger in those areas is high, and travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended, the center said in a news release.
