COACHELLA, Calif. (AP) — A mosque about 75 miles from San Bernardino, California, has been damaged by a fire that its leader says was started by a firebomb. People at the Islamic Center of Palm Springs -- in Coachella -- say they heard a "loud bloom" and saw flames in the small building's front lobby. No one was injured. The FBI is assisting local law enforcement in determining the cause.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Specialized divers with the FBI have returned for a second day to search a small lake at a park San Bernardino. They are apparently looking for a computer hard drive and any other evidence linked to last week's terror attack and the husband-and-wife shooters who killed 14 people. The park is about 3 miles from the terror attack site. Officials say the shooters were seen in the area on the day of the attack.
BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has called for the immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops from northern Iraq in a national address. He insists no foreign forces are needed to fight the Islamic State group in his country. Turkey has had troops in northern Iraq to help train local Kurdish and Sunni forces since last year, but the arrival of additional troops last week sparked an uproar in Baghdad.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Authorities say a former Oklahoma City police officer convicted of raping black women in his patrol area is under 24-hour watch in jail after an emotional outburst following his conviction. Daniel Holtzclaw is in special protection inside the jail as a precaution because of his demeanor after the trial. Holtzclaw began sobbing as the verdict was read. An all-white jury recommended that he serve more than 200 years in prison.
BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) — A day after announcing the FBI is joining the so-called Long Island serial killer investigation, police officials have toured the area where the first of 11 sets of human remains were found five years ago. They gathered along a remote stretch of Ocean Parkway in Suffolk County. Human remains — eight women, a man and a toddler — were found strewn along several miles of thicket adjacent to the parkway.
