BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Federal wildlife officials say they want to maintain grizzly bear numbers in the three-state Yellowstone region near current levels as they move toward lifting protections for the threatened species. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has set a management goal of 674 grizzly bears across the 19,000-square-mile region. Conflicts between bears and humans have spiked in recent years as the grizzly population pushed into areas with more people.
CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A former Nampa high school teacher has pleaded guilty to having sex with one of his students. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports Tomas Fisher taught Spanish at Skyview High School and resigned in July. Court documents say the student told authorities that she had consensual sexual contact with Fisher multiple times.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Boise City Council adjourned its meeting early when protesters against the city's weekend sweeps to clear out homeless camps overran the meeting. The Idaho Statesman protesters carried signs reading "Evict (Boise Mayor David) Bieter" and "Homeless displaced, Boise disgraced." Bieter offered to meet with each of the protesters personally to help with the unrest.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Mikey Thompson converted a 3-point play with 12.7 seconds left to help cold-shooting Boise State slip past Loyola Marymount 67-66 last night. Thompson's play helped the Broncos overcome a late 66-62 deficit and remain perfect in five home games this season. James Webb III scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Boise State.
