CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — An employee at the College of Charleston has filed a federal lawsuit against the school, saying it failed to respond to complaints that his supervisor used the N-word and drew a racially insensitive picture of a black man while on the job.
The Post and Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1SPF20I) Frederick Fortner, a black man, began working in the school's central energy department in 2008. Fortner says his supervisor, Warren Wurscher, has since used "inappropriate and uncalled for comments."
In 2011, Fortner said he heard Wurscher say "a black man can't do his job," watched him draw a picture depicting a black electrician, and overheard him use the N-word.
The college says the complaint is unfounded.
Fortner is suing for an unspecified amount in lost wages and other costs. A trial date hasn't been set.
