PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Gov. Jon Huntsman says a Bush administration official is being too pessimistic by saying the United States can't become energy independent.

Department of Energy Deputy Assistant Secretary James Slutz told the National Governors Association that the U.S. will always need some foreign oil.

Huntsman told The Salt Lake Tribune that with statements like that, the Department of Energy is leading without vision.

The Republican governor says it will take presidential leadership to solve America's energy problems.

Huntsman says the comments by Slutz show the Bush administration isn't working hard enough to find new solutions to those problems.
