SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's payroll employment for October 2015 grew by an estimated 3.5 percent, adding 47,700 jobs to the economy compared to the same month last year.
The state jobless rate was at 3.6 percent during the month, while the national rate was at 5 percent.
October's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained the same as the previous month, according to the Utah Department of Workforce Services. There were 1,400,800 Utahns registered as gainfully employed.
Approximately 52,300 Utahns were unemployed in the month and actively seeking work, said the department's chief economist Carrie Mayne.
"Even with a slight drop in job growth, the state continues to show above average expansion," she said. "Continued growth means continued opportunities for job seekers to find positions with Utah employers."
Eight of the 10 private sector industry groups measured in the establishment survey posted net job increases in October over the same period last year, with only natural resources and mining losing 800 jobs and other services shedding 1,200 positions. The largest private sector job growth was in education and health services — up 9,500 jobs; leisure and hospitality, which added 9,200 positions; along with professional and business services, up 8,100 jobs.
The most robust employment improvement occurred in information — up 7.5 percent; leisure and hospitality, up 7.2 percent; and construction up 6.6 percent.
