SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City has closed a links-style golf course near the airport because it can no longer afford the 270-acre property.
The Salt Lake International Airport had leased the land for Wingpointe Golf Course to the city for $1 a month since it was built in 1991. But the Federal Aviation Administration audited the deal in 2012 and said the land needed to earn an income closer to fair market value.

That would cost the city somewhere between $55,000 and $155,000 a year.
Salt Lake City has also been concerned about its golf enterprise fund, which is currently running a $1.5 million deficit.
In 2011, Wingpointe's costs exceeded its revenues by $141,020.
The course was considered one of Utah's best and known for its high winds.
