LAS VEGAS (AP) — A fire official says no one was hurt, but electricity was interrupted and crews had their hands full battling several pre-dawn fires sparked by a burning tree and downed power lines in southeast Las Vegas.
Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan says firefighters responding about 5:20 a.m. Thursday to a tree fire near Stratford and Glen Avenues found that fallen power lines electrified a chain-link fence and ignited several other debris fires. A power transformer also exploded.
A homeless encampment and a family in a trailer living near the intersection were evacuated, and power was shut off in the area off Boulder Highway and Sahara Avenue until fires were extinguished.
NV Energy spokeswoman Jennifer Schuricht says service was restored to about 1,600 customers by about 10 a.m.
