HONOLULU (AP) — The second-largest private school in Hawaii has received a $10 million gift from an anonymous donor and alumnus.

KHON-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1M7jEmZ ) that the donation to the Punahou School in Honolulu will go toward the student financial aid program.

Punahou School President Jim Scott says socioeconomics diversity at the school has increased dramatically, with an 84 percent increase in the number of financial aid awards over the past 20 years. He says during the same time period, the percentage of students receiving financial aid has grown from 8 percent to 15 percent.

Officials say the gift is one of the largest philanthropic contributions in the school's history.
