SALT LAKE CITY — A man who robbed a bank and was tracked to the University of Utah campus was arrested Friday, police said.
The robbery occurred around 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the U.S. Bank at 2243 E. 2100 South, according to Salt Lake City police. The man, later identified as 30-year-old Curtis Crosby, entered the bank and indicated he had explosives, police said. He demanded money from the teller and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Crosby was later believed to be on the U. campus near the Eccles Broadcast Center, prompting police to restrict the access to several areas on campus, police said. Officials lifted campus restrictions to students on site once they had reason to believe Crosby was no longer on campus.
Friday, police received a tip from an alert citizen who saw Crosby near a storage facility in Layton, according to Salt Lake police Detective Dennis McGowan. Crosby was arrested without incident and will be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
