WASHINGTON (AP) — The Iran nuclear deal came under fire during a rally outside the U.S. Capitol headlined by Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Inside, the Senate debated the merits of the agreement, with Republicans against it, Democrats for it.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Jerry Brown and legislative Democrats say they're scaling back their ambitious proposal to address climate change. They cite ongoing opposition from the oil industry and some lawmakers.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California had record-breaking heat today as triple-digit heat struck inland areas. Downtown Los Angeles had a high of 101 degrees while the airport in suburban Long Beach hit 103.

PHOENIX (AP) — A string of highway shootings has Arizona on edge over the possibility that a serial shooter is on the loose. A truck window shattered on a Phoenix freeway today, but that hasn't been confirmed as a shooting. No one was hurt.

PHOENIX (AP) — In Phoenix, dozens of drums of used motor oil exploded in a large fire at a solvent recycling company. The containers spewed fireballs and blackened the sky south of downtown Phoenix for more than an hour.
