(KSL News) Two people were sent to the hospital in critical condition after the motorcycle they were riding on hit a car.

Police say a car was trying to turn left on 700 East but saw a bicyclist coming through the intersection and stopped.

A motorcycle driving in the opposite direction tried to stop as well but couldn't, so the driver laid the bike on the ground. The motorcycle skidded across the street into the back of the car.

Both people on the bike were critically injured. It does not appear as if the two were wearing helmets.

A motorcyclist in Sandy was also not wearing a helmet when he was forced off the road this evening.

Sandy police say the man and his wife were riding motorcycles on State Street when the husband decided to change lanes. As he did, the car in front of him also changed lanes, forcing the motorcycle into a 1-foot-tall island.

As the biker hit the island, he flew 40 feet and the motorcycle landed on top of him.

Witnesses were able to pull the bike off, and the man was taken to the hospital with possible internal injuries.
