(KSL News) A man accused of murdering a truck stop security guard last December claims he was acting in self-defense. The trial for Roger Allen Malcolm started yesterday in Salt Lake City.

During opening statements, defense attorneys said Verne Jenkins had attacked Malcolm, punching him and throwing him to the floor, which led to Malcolm drawing a gun and shooting Jenkins in the neck.

Prosecutors argued that Jenkins was unarmed, and that a fist fight is not justification for a shooting.
