ATLANTA (AP) — Donald Trump isn't backing down after being kicked off the program at today's RedState Gathering in Atlanta over his remarks about Megyn Kelly of Fox News. RedState's Erick Erickson says he booted Trump for implying in a CNN interview that a question posed by Kelly in Thursday's GOP presidential debate question was "hormonal." Trump's campaign is accusing Erickson of showing "weakness through being politically correct."
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's official news agency is reporting that the Islamic Republic's military chief has backed a landmark nuclear deal with world powers despite having concerns over it. The general is a close ally of Iran's top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (hah-meh-neh-EE'), who has the final say on all state matters. The ayatollah hasn't publicly approved or disapproved the deal, which is opposed by hard-liners.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The lawyer for Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian (reh-ZY'-ahn) says her client will appear in court Monday for what will likely be the last hearing in his closed-door espionage trial in Iran. The newspapert's Tehran bureau chief has been held for more than a year. He reportedly faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted in Tehran's Revolutionary Court on charges that include espionage and distributing propaganda against the Islamic Republic.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — At least 30 boats have paraded across Rio de Janeiro's Guanabara Bay to protest contamination in the waters where sailing events will be held next year during next year's Olympic Games. Brazilian authorities pledged more than six years ago to drastically cut the amount of raw human sewage the bay before the 2016 games. But a recent Associated Press investigation found Olympic waterways contain high counts of disease-causing viruses from sewage.
KAZAN, Russia (AP) — American Katie Ledecky (leh-DEK'-ee) has lowered her own world record in winning the 800-meter freestyle at the world swimming championships in Russia. The 18-year-old trimmed 3.61 seconds off the previous record. Ledecky completed a sweep of the 200, 400, 800 and 1,500 freestyles and swam the anchor leg on the victorious 4x200 free relay, giving her five golds with one day remaining in the meet.
