COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The U.S. Open table tennis championships begin Monday with more than 1,000 athletes competing from 33 countries at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The singles competition starts Wednesday, with Adrian Crisan and Elisabeta Samara of Romania the top men's and women's seeds, respectively.
Lily Zhang of Palo Alto, California, is the top U.S. player in the women's draw with a No. 4 ranking. Among the top U.S. men's challengers are 2014 U.S. national champion Jimmy Butler and 15-year-old Kanak Jha.
Defending men's champion Tao Wen Zhang of China and women's title holder Yuko Fujii of Japan are unseeded.
The singles finals are July 11.
