I wasnt the biggest fan of the first Incredible Hulk, Eric Banna didnt really work for me and the animation of the Hulk made him seem too ape-like and cartoonish, well, all of that changes in the 2008 edition of The Incredible Hulk. Edward Norton ads weight and even pathos to his character, Bruce Banner as he struggles to find a cure to his genetic accident all while hes pursued by the relentless General Ross. Ross wants to tap into the Hulks dubious qualities for refinement into a super-soldier and Tim Roth, as a psychotic subordinate agrees to a genetic enhancement of his own in order to better combat the Hulk. Needless to say, that aint good and of course things go terribly wrong. When the story is focused on the characters, The Incredible Hulk is quite compelling; when it careens into full blown action-scenes thats, amazingly, the weakness. The effects are spectacular but the roaring, the flexing, green muscles, the crashes, the destruction; the ripping apart of cars seems to go on forever. Its not that the scenes are over-the-top, thats OK, its that there is so much of it; the film gets out of balance. But, having said that, it is entertaining, Norton is great, William hurt as Gen. Ross is just diabolical enough and theres a final moment thats worth the price of admission. Im giving The Incredible Hulk 3 stars and its rated PG-13
