(KSL News) The current economic slowdown is putting a strain on more Utahns. New figures show telephone requests for food assistance through the 211 community services number more than doubled during the first quarter of 2008.
Expenses have gone up over the last year. According to the New York Times and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of food is up 4 percent nationally.
Fuel prices in the Rocky Mountain region are up by more than 25 percent.
Jeneal Ford, development director of the Utah Food Bank, and certified financial planner Thom Hall joined us to discuss how the current economic slowdown is affecting Utahns in tonight's Talking Point.
