WEST HAVEN, Weber County — Police hope the person who stole an expensive tractor from a construction site will find that their new possession is impossible to hide.
A Komatsu PT250-5 tractor, worth about $130,000, was stolen from an Ormond Construction work site sometime between 6 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office.
Construction workers arrived at work Tuesday morning at 2700 West and 3400 South to find the loader was missing, said sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay.
Whoever made away with the loader didn't have access to its keys, Findlay said. New tires were recently added to the loader.
"It’s a big tractor and so it should stand out," he said. "If it’s in somebody’s driveway or out and about, it should be easy to spot."
Occasionally, construction equipment is stolen by a person wanting to use it for their own business, and stolen vehicles are often disguised, the lieutenant said. Anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to call the Weber County Sheriff's Office at 801-778-6631.
"(It's) not terribly fast, so I think it would stand out if it got out on the roadway," Findlay said.
