(KSL News) A Centerville police sergeant was sentenced Monday to a year in jail for beating his wife and 5-year-old stepdaughter.
However, John Spencer, who pleaded guilty to child abuse and aggravated assault, could be released in four months if the proper mental health treatment program becomes available. He has been diagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder.
Spencer's former wife feels he got off easy and got special treatment.
Spencer was with Centerville police for 16 years.
