DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Better Homes and Gardens says longtime chief editor Gayle Butler, who helped expand the magazine's scope and digital reach, is retiring.
Meredith Corp., which owns the magazine, released a statement Wednesday saying Butler will end her 30-year career with the company at the end of June. Butler has directed editorial content since 2006 for Better Homes and Gardens, which is among the nation's most widely read magazines, with 7.6 million readers.
The Iowa-based company says Butler expanded the magazine's scope to include beauty, fashion and home technology topics, and led the publication into digital, mobile and social media platforms.
The company says Butler will be replaced by Stephen Orr, the executive editor at Conde Nast Traveler and previous editorial director for Martha Stewart Living. Orr takes over July 6.
