MYTON, Utah (AP) — Crews are cleaning up after a tanker truck crashed in Duchesne County, spilling some 5,000 gallons of crude oil into a dry wash.
The Utah Highway Patrol says the driver of the truck owned by Salt Lake City-based Rockwell Transport failed to negotiate a turn on a two-lane road south of Myton and rolled the truck Saturday night.
Darrin Brown of the TriCounty Health Department told the Deseret News (http://bit.ly/1Fsa2S1 ) the wreck ruptured both tanks, sending the waxy oil about a mile down the wash before it hardened.
He says crews are trying to clean up the spill before rain moves into the area and carries the oil farther down the wash.
The truck driver, a 44-year-old Layton man, was taken to the hospital with injuries to his head, chest and back.
His name wasn't released.
