NEW YORK (AP) — Grammy-nominee Deborah Cox has been tapped to lead a North American tour of "The Bodyguard" next year.

The stage musical based on the 1992 movie starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner opened in London in 2012 starring Heather Headley to mixed reviews.

Cox has released six albums since 1995, with perhaps her most famous single being "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here." She made her Broadway debut in Elton John and Tim Rice's musical "Aida" and most recently starred opposite Constantine Maroulis in a revival of "Jekyll & Hyde."

The musical, directed by Thea Sharrock and adapted by Alexander Dinelaris, has the hits "Saving All My Love," ''I Will Always Love You" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody."

Additional casting and tour cities will be announced later.

Cox has a new album out this summer — the first single is "More Than I Knew" — and she will star as legendary Josephine Baker in "Josephine" at Asolo Repertory Theatre in Florida in April 2016.
