CEDAR CITY — A woman who was reported as a missing person lied about being kidnapped at gunpoint, police said.

Officers were notified of an alleged kidnapping on May 11 that reportedly occurred within Cedar City, according to Cedar City police. The alleged kidnapping victim, Dominique Balch, had been reported missing to the Enoch City Police Department on May 10 and her “missing persons” flyer was posted on social media websites, police said.

Balch was seen in Blanding on May 10 and claimed that she had been “kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to Blanding,” police said. Cedar City police interviewed the victim and processed information and during the investigation, “it was revealed that her allegations about the kidnapping were false,” police said.

Police said because the allegations were false, there is no public safety risk or kidnapping suspect at large.

The case is still being reviewed and charges for filing a false police report are pending.
