KAYSVILLE — A couple lost their home to a fire made worse by contact with power lines Friday evening.
The blaze at 364 N. 700 East started around 5:30 p.m. while the family was away, according to Kaysville fire officials.
Its frame was still standing, but the home was a complete loss, said Kaysville Fire Chief Brett Larkin.
A neighbor apparently saw the fire and let the family dog out of the home.
"The flames were reaching up and hitting the power lines that went from the power out back to the house," said Todd Merrill, a neighbor. He said he saw the kitchen and patio of the home engulfed in flames.
A downed power line kept firefighters at a distance from the home, according to Larkin. Propane tanks caught in the fire may have made the blaze more difficult to contain.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Friday night, but Larkin said he didn't believe it was human-caused or weather-related.
An estimate of the damage wasn't immediately available.
