DOUBLE TAKE TOWN — Whether or not you’re a fan of any sport, there’s always something compelling about seeing clips of incredible feats of skill and/or strength.
For someone like me, who does not follow any sportsing, the draw comes from seeing high-stakes human drama, which is always compelling. Plus I don’t have to commit to more than five minutes of sports at a time.
Professional athletes are usually more likely to impress as they repeatedly perform physical feats that I could never dream of duplicating. But there’s something even more special when you see something great from amateurs.
So while I could watch clips all day of Pelé bicycle kicking his way into sports history (even if the only clear clip I can find is from the movie "Victory"), I am even more impressed by a boys soccer team from the James Island Group Soccer Club in South Carolina who employ the same technique, times two.
Look, I could describe it to you all day, telling you that player one passes the ball with a bicycle kick to a second player who’s in the middle of a mob close to the goal, then player two takes the only shot he can and bicycle kicks the ball into the goal, but you really have to see it to believe it.
Goooooal!
