LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A fire ripped through a former cabinet shop that was being converted into a 20-bedroom vacation rental in northeast Utah destroying the $1 million property.

The Herald Journal in Logan reports that firefighters were called to the 200,000-square-foot structure in Garden City near Bear Lake Thursday morning. The structure was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Garden City Fire District Chief Mike Wahlberg says he brought firefighters from all of Rich County, as well as two crews from Cache Valley to fight the blaze. He said even with 35 firefighters on scene it took hours to get the fire under control.

Wahlberg said the Utah state fire marshal has been on scene and conducted a preliminary investigation, but that work will not be completed until Friday.
