NEW YORK (AP) — Hidden from the sidewalks and bearing an address more suited for a Harry Potter film than a New York City street lies a house behind a house.
The former stable at 131½ Charles Street in Greenwich Village is concealed by a brick house. It's the former home of Diane Arbus, the famous photographer of eccentric and marginal people who lived there from 1959 to 1968.
The Wall Street Journal (http://on.wsj.com/1dw4Yja ) says the two houses are on the market for $13.5 million.
The backhouse is accessed through a 32-foot tunnel, a narrow horse walk where a groom would lead a horse to the rear yard.
Halstead Property broker Wendy Gleason says the asking price is similar to other single-family homes in the neighborhood.
Arbus killed herself in 1971.
