WASHINGTON (AP) — Faith leaders have argued for and against gay marriage at separate events in Washington, where the Supreme Court will hear arguments on the issue Tuesday.
Thousands of opponents of same-sex marriage attended Saturday's March for Marriage on the National Mall, declaring that God established marriage as the union of a man and a woman and government cannot redefine it.
On Sunday, clergy who support gay marriage attended an interfaith service at Washington's National City Christian Church.
The Rev. Candy Holmes of the Metropolitan Community Church speculated that the biblical figures David and Jonathon may have had a gay relationship and that Lydia, the apostle Paul's first European convert, may have been a lesbian.
Representatives of both sides say they'll be praying outside the court.
