SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah and Notre Dame are working on a deal to have the schools play each other in 2010.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported on its Web site Friday that the schools are nearing an agreement for the Utes to travel to South Bend, Ind. It would be the first time the two schools have met in football.
Utah has an open date in 2010 because its series with Washington State was bumped to 2012 and 2013. Coach Kyle Whittingham says playing Notre Dame would give Utah national exposure that would help with the recruiting.
Utah is scheduled to play at Utah State and Iowa State in 2010, so it would need to make some changes to give the Utes two home and two away nonconference games.
Whittingham says if one of those games can't be moved that it could be a deal breaker for Notre Dame.
