COALVILLE — Morgan County officials Monday were mourning the loss of an animal control officer who was killed in an ATV accident over the weekend.
Paula Pentz, 47, of Coalville, was killed Sunday while trying to round up some horses that had wandered off her property. Pentz was with her husband and brother-in-law, according to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.
The group was in the Lost Creek Reservoir area. Her brother-in-law had reportedly found one of the horses and had taken it down a hill in an area of rough terrain, according to the sheriff's office. When he went back to the top of the hill to tell Pentz he had retrieved one of the horses, he found she had crashed and the ATV was on top of her.
The crash was not witnessed by anyone, and it was unknown how the accident happened. Pentz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pentz had worked for Morgan County Animal Control for three years. On Facebook Monday, friends and family members changed their profile pictures to a graphic of a dog paw with Pentz's name written across it, "Animal Control" written in a blue band, and "EOW 4/12/2015," standing for end of watch.
