POCATELLO — A Utah man was arrested Wednesday after he was allegedly trafficking $60,000 of heroin, officials said.
An Idaho State Trooper stopped Andres Avila-Rivera, 34, for a traffic violation at around 7:30 p.m. as he was traveling northbound on US-91 in Franklin County, which is near the Utah border, according to Teresa Baker with the Idaho State Police Department.
The trooper requested to search the 2006 Honda Civic, to which Avila-Rivera complied. The trooper then found approximately 201.4 grams of brown heroin in the vehicle, Baker said.
Avila-Rivera was booked into the Caribou County Jail on suspicion of felony trafficking in heroin. He will be arraigned in Sixth Judicial District Court in Franklin County, Baker said.
Avila-Rivera could face a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and a fine of $25,000 if he is convicted, Baker said.
