TAYLORSVILLE — Police are searching for the man who allegedly hit a Shopko employee with his car while stealing a pair of Nike athletic shoes.

The incident occurred Saturday at the Taylorsville Shopko, 5800 S. Redwood Road, according to Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

Hoyal said the suspect put on a new pair of white Nikes before placing his own shoes in the shoe box and leaving the store. The man was apparently pursued by a "loss prevention" Shopko employee assigned to stop shoplifters. That employee placed a shopping cart behind the suspect's car in an attempt to stop the man from leaving.

Hoyal said the suspect ran over both the cart, which hit the loss prevention employee, and the employee's leg itself. The Shopko employee sustained minor injuries.

Police described the subject as a white man with a medium build, roughly 5'11'' and 165 lbs. He was wearing a black hat, grey sweatshirt and black sweatpants and has a neck tattoo.

The suspect was driving a gold 2005 Hyundai Elantra, license plate number A753HY.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Unified police at 801-743-7000.
