SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal authorities say a Utah renewable energy company will pay a $3 million penalty to settle allegations that earned a profit claiming it produced biodiesel it didn't make. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says that Washakie Renewable Energy generated $2 million worth of renewable fuel credits by claiming it produced enough biodiesel in Plymouth to remove the equivalent of 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert says he's concerned about a bill that would stop Utah regulators from banning wood burning for an entire season. The Republican governor said he's going to take a close look at the proposal before signing or vetoing it because lawmakers may be imposing an unnecessary restriction on a state board tasked with overseeing state air quality. Herbert has until April 1 to sign or veto the bill.
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — An Ogden man is dead after his truck crashed into the Weber River near the Devil's Slide formation. Authorities say 33-year-old Joseph Stakely died after he lost control of the truck while speeding west on Interstate 84. The Ogden Standard Examiner reports Stakely was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.
OREM, Utah (AP) — A store employee is facing charges after a 3-year-old girl told adults that a man flashed his genitals and made her touch them. The Daily Herald reports that 49-year-old Cesar Peredo encountered the child at the National Flooring store in Orem. He now faces charges of forcible sexual abuse of a child and lewdness involving a child.
