DAYTON, Oho (AP) — The first two games of the men's NCAA Tournament are tonight in Dayton, Ohio. These opening games are now promoted as the First Four and feature, this evening, Hampton against Manhattan and BYU against Mississippi. There are two more games tomorrow night before the tournament really gets going Thursday.
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — There's good news for fans of the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Mike Matheny says that Adam Wainwright, the ace of the rotation, is going to make his first spring training start on Saturday against Atlanta. Wainwright sustained a mild abdominal strain early in spring training and has thrown a pair of bullpen sessions since the injury, including about 40 pitches in a simulated game Monday.
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Free agent running back Trent Richardson has found a new home as he has signed with the Oakland Raiders. Richardson was the third pick in the 2012 draft by Cleveland and has already played for the Browns and Colts. He was cut by Indianapolis last week.
TORONTO (AP) — Toronto center Nazem Kadri (NA'-zihm KAH'-dree) has a date with the NHL's department of player safety. The league wants to investigate his hit to the head of Edmonton's Matt Fraser Monday night. Kadri, who is a repeat offender under the league's CBA, was suspended three games last season for a hit to the head of Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The state of New Jersey is still fighting to get sports gambling legalized in the state. Attorneys representing the state, the four pro sports leagues and the NCAA, argued today in front of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. The leagues and NCAA sued in 2012 to stop New Jersey from implementing a law allowing sports gambling.
