(KSL News) The principal of Churchill Junior High School in Salt Lake County received special recognition today from the military.
Principal Bryce Holdbrook is an Army Reserve soldier and currently serves as the Command Chaplain for the 96th Regional Readiness Command. He is getting promoted to a district position.
Students and faculty congratulated him with a special assembly. And the military showed up with a surprise of its own. Gen. Peter Cooke awarded Holdbrook with a meritorious service medal.
Holdbrook said, "Well, what a surprise this was. You know, my assistant principal decoyed me around a little bit while they brought the students into the auditorium. For a while I thought it was just an assembly and all of the sudden they bring out my commanding general."
Holdbrook says working in the military and in education is a great combination.
