The remains of a dog and cow were found by a fence crew near 3300 West and 800 South in Beryl on Feb. 10, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said the dog appeared to have been shot. They believe the cow was shot as well.
“The cow was skinned and butchered. All usable meat was taken,” a statement from the sheriff’s office reads. “It is believed that the body of the cow was dumped at this location and the dog was killed at this scene.”
Investigators said they believe the cow was killed near New Castle, in the area of Sand Springs Road and Sand Well Loop, between 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 and 9 a.m. on Feb. 10. The cow had an estimated value of between $1,700 and $3,000 while alive, according to the sheriff’s office.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Iron County Sheriff’s Department at 435-867-7500. There is a $1,000 reward being offered for information that leads to the arrests and convictions of those responsible for the killings.
