THE GREAT OUTDOORS — Utah State Parks officials are offering a discount to several state parks in an effort to encourage people to get out and enjoy the outdoors.
The promotion runs Feb. 28 and March 1 and offers 50 percent off of the day-use fee, according to a Utah State Parks new release. The discount will be offered for any park in the northern, central and eastern regions.
There are 16 parks in the northern region, including Antelope Island State Park and Utah Lake State Park. Seven parks exist in the central region including the Fremont Indian State Park and Museum,Palisade State Park and Yuba State Park.
Red Fleet State Park,Starvation State Park, Steinaker State Park and the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum make up the eastern region of Utah state parks.
“Many of our 43 state parks are a short distance away from the Wasatch Front and each one provides a unique experience,” Utah State Parks Director Fred Hayes said in a news release. “It is our desire to provide an outlet for visitors so they can enjoy our state’s beautiful resources and outdoor opportunities within a short distance of their homes.”
With an unusually warm winter season, there are a variety of outdoor activities available throughout the state parks, including hiking, wildlife watching and fishing.
Antelope Island State Park will also be hosting an owl-watching event on Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. Neil Paprocki from HawkWatch International will do a presentation about the short-eared owl and conservation efforts, and participants can go outside to see owls in their habitat on the island, the news release said.
