PROVO — A 17-year-old Provo girl, who recently competed on “The Voice,” is kicking off her first album release with a concert Saturday.
Madilyn Paige said she discovered she had a talent for singing after she performed for neighbors and friends when she was 11 years old. Now a senior at Timpview High School, Paige has done several local performances and competitions, including competing on Season 6 of “The Voice,” where she made it to the top 20 finalists.
Paige said as she got older, she had become more afraid to perform and “The Voice” became a turning point for her.
“I knew I couldn’t turn such an opportunity down so I decided to do it,” she said. “I’m so glad that I did because it gave me so much confidence and it definitely was a turning point for me. And it kind of solidified that I really do want to do this for the rest of my life. I realized how much I really do love to sing and perform.”
While competing on “The Voice,” Paige wrote her single, “Irreplaceable.” She continued writing and co-writing songs while going to school and now a year later, she will debut her first album release with a concert Saturday.
Paige describes her music as a mix of pop and Indie singer/songwriter and said she draws inspiration for her songwriting from personal experience and the experiences of others.
“A big source (of inspiration) is from experiences that I see other people go through,” she said. “Because when I write love songs and stuff like that, I feel really young and I don’t have a lot of experience in that area and other areas as well. So I will look to other people and what they are going through and that will inspire me. … Or something that I’m going through personally.”
Paige’s album release concert will be held at Velour at 8 p.m.
